Georgios Makaroglou
PhD candidate, Environmental Engineer
Georgios Makaroglou, is an Environmental Engineer graduated from the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of the Technical University of Crete. He then continued his studies in the same School, where up until today he is a PhD student in the field of Environmental Engineering. The subject of his thesis is on microalgae cultivation in photo-bioreactors and his work is funded by the Research Programme “Bioconversion of CO2 into High-added Value Bioproducts through Sustainable Microalgae Cultivation Processes, CO2-BioProducts”. The research programme is being co-financed by the Greek Government and the European Union, under the operational programme “COMPETITIVENESS, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, INNOVATION”. His research interests are focused on microalgae cultivation (photo-bioreactors, optimization, CO2 and exhaust fumes sequestration, bioconversion into high-added value bioproducts), wastewater treatment and reuse, design of environmental processes and environmental impact assessment. He has published 1 scientific article and he has presented his findings in 4 national and international conferences.
Furthermore, Georgios Makaroglou has gained teaching experience as a teaching assistant to the courses “Design of Environmental Plants and Environmental Impact Assessment I&II", which are lectured by Prof. Petros Gikas in the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Crete.
